My daughter went to Wheeler. It is very diverse....racially, ethnically and economically. It also has a math and science magnet program and most of the school has recently been rebuilt.

I've always thought of "outskirts" as being sort of the outlying areas around a city. Sort of like the exurbs or further our suburbs. At least that was the way we used it.

I always thought it referred to the fringes of the city, not of the metro area. I guess there would have to be a clarification of what someone is talking about because it could mean either, but if someone meant the exurbs or far-out suburbs I think they would say "the outskirts of Metro Atlanta".

Only people familiar with the area would say that.

I had been to Atlanta many times when I was growing up, but it wasn't until a road trip in my early 20s that I even thought about what the metro could include or even that it was a metro. I was visiting a friend who had recently moved to "Atlanta" and the next thing I knew, I was in Marietta. I remember thinking what the heck is this; I thought she said she lived in Atlanta.

As far as I was concerned, she lived in another city in the state and not consider it as part of a metro.

Yeah, you are right. The outskirts of what -- the city proper or the metro area?
