Thanks for looking Crunchy meaning "green" and "environmentally friendly".

Anyway. Our family is relocating and the job is located in Winder, GA.
About us. Young family with 3 children 4 years and under and one baby on the way. I am a homemaker and my husband is an engineer. We enjoy outdoor activities, shop at natural/farmer's/organic stores, and frequent the library. I love walk-able and bike-friendly areas. My husband does not mind a commute, but I do not like to drive much. Also, we are originally from a rural Indiana town. I am bi-racial (black/white) and he is white and so far our children look white. Not sure if this is relevant, but I have always feared moving to Georgia given its history and my experience with being a minority in a very racist high school.

Renting first to learn about the area.

1. Budget- We could do up to $1500/month but I would like to get a tiny place and spend much less. We do not need a 4 bedroom. Maybe 2? Depends on sqft.
2. House/Condo/Townhome? I would prefer whatever is cheapest so we can save to maybe buy a house. We own a fifth wheel and have lived in it full-time and it has a solar system set up for boondocking. If we can find a place to park it that is cheaper than an apartment, we would like to do that. If it is cheaper to rent a home (which it seems is likely given the rv parks I've browsed) then we could just do that and use our camper for camping. I'm not really concerned with aesthetics, but my husband is. He would be willing to spend a bit more for a nice looking home/accommodations. I would be willing to spend a bit more if there were amenities that we would use daily like a park/dog park/pool.
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home) Commuting to Winder GA
4. Children(public school vs. private) We homeschool. A vibrant homeschooling community is a plus!
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two. I feel like we gravitate toward more urban (despite our recent stint boondocking on an organic farm). I really like being less dependent on my van or at least not having a half hour drive to get to the library or grocery store. I would like to live somewhere within walking distance of a park/library/other fun kid friendly thing.
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not? Not really.
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood. Family friendly. Walk-able. Activities geared toward infants and preschool children. Safe.

Side question. Is Winder really that bad? It would be so convenient if we could just make it work and he could bike to work... Are there any nice areas/streets there we can look into? He has visited and spent most of his time in Athens. My internet searching shows that we would probably like Athens a lot. Any specific streets/ areas I should focus on? We are planning a "relocation trip" to scout out places but I want to have detailed lists of what I need to look for so we maximize our week there.

Thank you all so much! Take Care.

WINDER is in EAST Metro Atlanta, not west ... just saying.

Move to Athens (one of the "crunchiest" cities in America) and you'll be fine.
