Governor Deal deserves serious recognition for being moderate in today's often overly polarized political world.

Despite having an "R" next to his name he has taken a lot of moderate stances. There are a lot of big things like him killing the terrible "religious freedom" bill that was moving through the state to smaller / symbolic things like him having a great working relationship with those on the other side of the aisle like Mayor Reed and riding / supporting transit: Atlanta I-85 bridge collapse: Governor Deal to ride MARTA on Wednesday | Political Insider blog

If he passes this new bill to gerrymander lines then all positive things that I had to say about him will be gone (http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slate...rrymander.html).

He should be awarded a Profiles in Courage Award for his veto of the Religious Freedom Bill. If Roy Barnes got one for deep-sixing that stupid state flag then Deal definitely deserves it. Unlike Barnes, he stood up against his own party to do what was right.

Veto the Gerrymander Bill, and the Campus Carry legislation, then we'll talk.

Totally agreed that Deal has earned mad props and respect. Particularly during this second term.

Moderate-ness in general is sorely needed in this country, as a general philosophy, and particularly here in Georgia in a booming 21st century of all this growth and demographic change.

And bi-partisanship is so refreshing, too.

I agree. I rarely support Republicans, and usually find much of their platform and actions reprehensible, but Deal has been a breath of fresh air.

Disclaimer: I am employed in the TV/film industry, and he's been a huge supporter of it.

I don't agree with the Campus Carry legislation, but it does have a fair amount of support in the state. And in order to be a moderate Republican in office, sometimes you have to throw a bone over to the conservative side as well. Liberals aren't going to have every decision go their way, even if there was a Democratic governor.

He has been fine, relative to politicians...even good. He and Kasim are very similar on my like scale. Sometimes I really dislike them but overall they have done an acceptable job.
