Woods Chapel BBQ has been open for a week now. We went last night for an early dinner (walkable from home!) and it was AMAZING. Really good food, really cool atmosphere. We tried as much as we could on the menu and I would go back for all of it again. Still waiting on liquor/beer license. It's definitely worth a drive into Summerhill, especially if you stop by Big Softie right across the street for dessert. Little Tart has also been open for several weeks. It's nice to see crowds of people on this little strip of Georgia Ave. From the looks of it, Halfway Crooks brewery (right next to Big Softie) will be open before July 1.

Awesome! Taking a stroll through there now that more things are opening is high on my list!

Agreed! Walkable for me too - my family went there for dinner the other night, and were happy with everything. Big Softie is really great too. I wasn't sure if I'd be happy with a soft serve place, but their coffee ice cream is AMAZING.

When Dan Joy and his team at Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio complete their work in Southside Atlanta’s Summerhill development, they will deliver housing, retail and a generous amount of green space to the area in conjunction with developer Carter USA’s master plan for the area.

RJTR is providing architectural and civil design services for the new Summerhill Apartments project on Hank Aaron Drive, which will include a five-story building with 306 apartment units, two outdoor amenity areas and street-facing live-work units, a club room, leasing office, fitness center and approximately 8,000 square feet of retail at the project’s most visible corners.

Hedgewood Homes partnered with Carter on Summerhill, purchasing three acres off Georgia Avenue to develop new residential properties.

“It’s rare to have an opportunity in town where we can create a new neighborhood of this size — at this time 100 new homes,” said Hedgewood co-founder Don Donnelly. “College campuses are desirable places to live near. With walkability being the No. 1 desired amenity nationally, Summerhill can’t be beat.”

...Intown Builders LLC filed plans in Atlanta for a multi-family project at 105 Georgia Avenue, a site next to Phoenix Park.

The project would sit near a revitalized commercial district along Georgia Avenue, which is now home to Wood’s Chapel BBQ, Junior’s Pizza, Little Tart Bakeshop and Halfway Crooks Beer. A joint venture of Carter, Oakwood Development and Healey Weatherholtz Properties is behind that redevelopment and a larger project transforming the former Turner Field area.

Joe Brown with Intown Builders told Atlanta Business Chronicle his project would include 40 to 50 units of market-rate and affordable housing...

Development keeps on coming in Summerhill:

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/...venue-add.html

Quote:
Near the sprawling parking lots of Atlanta’s former Turner Field, a developer plans to buy 5 acres where it will build almost 300 apartments.

The project is part of a larger revival happening in the city’s Summerhill neighborhood.

Phoenix-based Alliance Residential is working on a deal for the properties, which are dozens of undeveloped parcels along Fulton and Solomon streets just east of Capitol Avenue and a short walk from the 375-room Ramada Plaza.

In 2006, when city officials were seeking to lure development to the area, the block Alliance intends to buy was viewed as a site for townhouses or mid-rise lofts.

Alliance's plan has parallels. It recently sought permits from the city of Atlanta to develop three five-story apartment buildings. It’s also seeking permits to demolish two homes and a small multifamily dwelling to clear sites for development.

The new project will be called Broadstone Summerhill and feature 276 studio, one-and-two-bedroom units, averaging 729 square feet. The design will echo the Victorian architecture of Historic Grant Park, Alliance said. Another inspiration is the old brick buildings along Georgia Avenue, now filled with boutique retailers.

Alliance does not yet own the property. It could wrap up the purchase in coming weeks and finalize a deal with a construction lender. The development could break ground later this year and open for residents by 2021.

A new Summerhill “barcade” promises to be the stuff of gamers’ dreams

Press Start, slated to open next year, will combine the nostalgic appeal of 1980s and ‘90s arcades with the modern demand for craft cocktails and artfully fashioned small plates. Tang has secured a 4,500-square-foot space (including a patio) in Summerhill. The first floor will have vintage games such as Mortal Kombat, Pac-Man, and Street Fighter II—titles Tang considers “a piece of my childhood.” There will be darts, Foosball, and board games, as well as some virtual reality options.

The menu will be designed by Char executive chef Mike Yang, and Tang is working on the beverage list. “Handhelds” and Asian small plates will be available at the bar. Expect about 10 craft cocktails, wines by the glass and bottle, and beer on tap. The upstairs area will feature a lounge with shuffleboard and table service.
