I've been thinking about getting an abandoned house in English avenue, revamping it, and renting it out to someone needy for cheap. I've found a few abandoned houses for around 30k. I want to do most of the renovations myself, but i'll need help installing electricity, plumbing, and hvac stuff. What is the best way to do for it relatively cheap in Atlanta? I'm thinking about hiring the people near home depot and stuff like that to help me out too, but I want professional help for the critical things.

You need to hire a licensed electrician, plumber, and HVAC person. They're not cheap, but necessary. It's just part of the budget when you decide to buy an investment property. The best way to get a good price is to get multiple estimates or have a lot of work so they give you a volume discount. Look for small companies that don't do a lot of work for home owners.

biggerpockets.com - site has all sorts of articles, blogs, audio blogs on realestate. Good if you're just getting started.

as others have echoed, remodeling is the game of stacking your contact list deep with reliable contractors. they're hard to find - the good ones won't take your call as they're busy and the rest will be working 2-3 jobs (making hay while the sun shines). HD is fine if only for grunt work. Good luck, you'll learn a lot - the more you do yourself the more you'll save

Expect no-shows, especially on small projects. Trades people are in short supply, and the ones who exist are busy working for flippers and don't really care about individual jobs. This is what I've learned recently as I've been doing some projects around the house in preparation to sell my house.
