Maybe on that stretch of Ponce we can say no left turns.

Your options are:

1. Do something like Icon said above.
2. Or, turn right at any various intersections, do some kind of loopty-loop/roll-around, and then cross back over Ponce (at the intersection) to make would've been the left turn.
People need to get to their streets. No left turns is not feasible. North Decatur a mile away, Ponce and the Byway are the only ways to get to those streets west of the golf course. East its Ponce, N. Decatur and Coventry off Scott.

Eastbound-to-Southbound left turns @ Clifton are already prohibited 12 hours a day.

Again, they narrowed that intersection and made it worse 6 or 7 years ago. They just have no interest.

Obviously you don't live there!

Er, I guessed you missed my post where I said we obviously would NOT want to mess with Olmsted parks.

I'm talking about adding a turn/queuing lane near the major intersections. I think you could do that by carving a few feet off those huge lots on the other side of Ponce. You don't need to do it the whole length of the road.

And good luck with DHCA.

Maybe you misunderstand. I am saying do a road diet like was already done on Ponce in downtown Decatur. Instead of the current 4-lanes (two lanes in each direction), make it 3 lanes (one in each direction plus a center turn lane / median).

We don't need to "rip out" anything to make it happen. Just re-stripe to make Ponce more like the road it was originally built to be.

I'd rather see people drive at a stately pace on intown roads. As I've said many times, 25-35 mph is plenty fast for most city streets.

But that doesn't mean traffic shouldn't move fairly steadily.

Unfortunately people already drive fast on Ponce, but that's because they are mostly bobbing and weaving to avoid the blockades that occur due to left-turners.

What do you think of a road diet as the solution? Better flow, calmer traffic, and you don't have to fight Druid Hills to take people's front yards?

Maybe they could even add bike lanes, from Moreland Ave to W Ponce in Decatur (where currently there are existing bike lanes. Transform the Ponce/Scott @ Parkwood Rd intersection(s) into a roundabout.

Then you've got four lanes of traffic (Scott Boulevard and W. Ponce de Leon) suddenly feeding into two. That'll be a problem.
