Could have happened. I'm just saying probably not.
Yeah, this Black couple was clearly making up things. Called up one of their White friends and just staged the whole thing. Makes perfect sense. [/sarcasm]

When I first moved to Newnan, a real estate agent (who was white) escorted me to a home in an older part of the city. To my shock and disappointment (with all of the suburban growth and large influx of transplants, you'd think it wouldn't be such a blatant thing), it sat between two houses that both have huge confederate flags flying in front of them.

The woman had to know about those flags given she was hired as the agent to rent out the home, and it sort of pissed me off that she took me to it any way without at least giving me a warning. So I did the same thing the black video did to this real estate agent, although I wasn't as blunt (I simply told her the environment wasn't the right fit for me and "NOPE'd!" out of there as fast as I could). She wasn't making a commissiom off of me!

This experience is also part of the reason why I rarely go to the non-suburban side of Newnan.

Dollars to doughnuts that the owners of those houses deliberately hung those flags in order to elicit the very reaction they got from you. There was no conviction behind it, just a pre-emptive move to keep 'the new people' out of the neighborhood.

Fair reply. Two separate issues that I conflated.

When white people say they are 9th generation, x and x. Or that their ancestors were on the Mayflower, blah, blah, you don't recognize that it comes across to minority-Americans as boasting? That you're more "legit" than us? Because it does, even if you don't realize it.

The second part is that I'm simply asking if your family owned slaves. You're white, you're wealthy and you're from the South. It's a fair question. Doesn't mean you're racist today. I'm stating the obvious: my ancestors were black, poor and slaves. It's a fact of American history.

Nope.

There were blacks pressed into the Confederate army with guns at their backs and family held hostage back on the plantations.

When one is a slave, there is no concept of choice.

Yes, they made very clear that they didn't want a black person living next to them because of whatever ignorance and hateful views they hold of an entire race of people. And that's their right. I would have hated them too.

I've never seen anybody cruising the streets of the ATL with a flag like that. That's intentionally provocative, to many whites as well as blacks and other minorities.

It's also odd that the engine of the guy's SUV starts before he gets in. And how many people, even hopeless rednecks, drive around with their rear window flipped up?

I know the article says "Atlanta," but the environment in the video suggests to me it was actually somewhere further out in the suburbs (though I can't pinpoint where exactly).

And that would make sense. Outer suburban areas would probablly pull in a lot of characters from more rural areas like the one in the OP (where such expression would tend to be tolerated) compared to inner city Atlanta.

You accused me of being a 7th Generation Atlantan. I corrected you. It was a statement of fact, not a brag. You filled the empty space with your own personal prejudices and proceeded to run with it, making slanderous comments regarding my mindset based on my supposed heritage (which has yet to be confirmed by me; it's really none of your business, anyway, Robespierre). I think you owe me an apology.
