To accomodate the job growth from places such as the Facebook Data Center, a developer is working in a plan to add 1,200 housing units as part of a mixed-use development near Porterdale.

Cedar Shoals Property plans to build 356 single family residential lots, 142 townhomes and 720 apartments on 257 acres of mostly undeveloped, wooded land adjacent to the city that straddles the Yellow River. A commercial hub is planned on approximately 27 acres at the intersection of Highway 81 and the Covington Bypass. A green space and trails are planned along the Yellow River including a public boat and kayak launch area.

The development authority executive David Bernd highlighted the lack of higher-end housing for younger white collar workers and states that they "don't want to become a bedroom community ."

Excellent idea. Having a white collar workforce living close will also encourage more tech companies to expand or relocate to the area.
