Red light cameras are an excellent idea. Don't run the light (or push it) and you're in great shape.

Until they "accidentally" miscalibrate it to fire on a yellow, or crank the yellow time down to nothing. Then there's the 6th (?) amendment aspect, how do I face my accuser when it's a box of circuits?

Atlanta, Georgia Red Light Cameras Map

After the law was changed, a lot of the cities shuttled their cameras because it became too expensive.

That map looks waaaay out-of-date. I've driven through several of those intersections recently, and they don't have red light cameras. A lot of them have been taken down in recent years.
