See below. Maybe promoting "Thugnation Thursday" wasn't a very bright idea, huh? I'm thinkin' they'll probably scrap that idea going forward.........

Holy smoke...this, the guy on Cheshire Bridge, and the collapsed bridge at the Botanical Gardens. What a morning.
Oh yeah, not to mention the 'Flying Corvette' yesterday.
Don't think I'll be leaving the house today.

With this unseasonably warm weather I've been waiting for a tornado or two.

They should have never had the idea from the beginning. I can understand the reasoning of a thug/gangsta/mafioso sucked into a life that might seem to them as the easiest option for respect and money. What I don't understand is a society that condemns this lifestyle then celebrates it through record and box office sales. Don't for a second think that "thugs" are the ones buying the music and making gangsta rap and mobster movies so profitable. Its middle America...

I understand violent truth's place in freedom of expression (i.e. Pablo Picasso's Guernica, Grand Master Flash's The Message), but celebrating aimless violence is ethically hypocritical. Who has the moral highground here? The executives that fund and distribute this thug imagery like narcotics, the modern minstrel performers that get wealthy portraying the image, or the consumer that approves and endorses it? I guess it really doesn't matter, because the majority are getting what they want out of it. "Thugnation Thursday" is celebrated all over this country everyday.

Just out of curiosity is this thread simply a tragic tale from a far off land or am I missing the point?

I think the "point" of the thread is "be careful what you wish for".

Why a place called "O'Riley's Sports Bar" would think it was smart to invite the crowd that would frequet an event called "ThugNation Thursday" to their establishment is beyond my comprehension. I hate to say it, but the resultant behavior is a the consequence of creating the proper atmosphere. I guess they should have stuck to Leprechauns, four-leaf clovers and Sunday NFL games.........

You hold an event called "Thugnation Thursday" and wonder how trouble could possibly arise?

It reminds me of an interview when Spike Lee was talking about the arrest and trial of an owner of a major hip-hop record label and commented "your nickname is Irv Gotti, your record label is called Murder, Inc., and you wonder why you're in trouble?"

The stupidity of knuckleheads is rather appalling.

Middle America still *buys* music? I thought BitTorrent had superseded that.
