Or more specifically, where do the creative types live and hangout? I'm relocating from NY and I want to experience the same vibe here in Atlanta.

Thanks

I would say Little 5 Points has that lower east side vibe about it. Decatur is another spot.

East Atlanta Village is another area to consider.

Yeah, almost all of the music clubs are in Little Five Points or East Atlanta Village. A lot of artists/musicians/creative types live in Cabbagetown and Reynoldstown.

Do you know why it is called Cabbagetown? Someone told me years ago but I forgot.. Does it have something to do with a train carrying cabbages derailing and covering the streets with the vegetable?

My understanding of Cabbagetown is because it was a mill town. The Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill was the main mill. Fulton Bag and Cotton Mills - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The housing was provided by the mill owner(s). The workers always seemed to be indebted to the mill worker as it was their source of income and housing. Many workers could not afford much, so cabbage was cheap produce and cabbage would be sold from wagons on the street.

That's a better story than the real story, which George basically summed up.

Little 5 Points, Midtown, and East Atlanta Village are all good artistic areas. The city really does have a lot to choose from. Good luck.
