Can anyone recommend a football league for my 6 year old? He really wants to play this fall, but I can't find a good fit. We live in Smyrna but don't mind traveling a reasonable distance for the right league. Interested in touch or tackle.

I've looked into a few tackle leagues nearby, but I don't like them because I've heard (or seen other indications) that the adults (coaches, parents) care waaay too much about winning, or otherwise take it too seriously. Some I rejected because they have videos of their teams on Youtube with crunk hip hop soundtracks. That's not quite our family's style.

I haven't found any touch leagues to even consider, so ideas for those would be appreciated too.

Thanks!

have you considered Flag Football?

Some Ys offer it in the Fall/Winter...

You might need to call around as I don't know if they have done their fall schedules yet.

The challenge with Little League Football (and baseball for that matter) is that the tone of the team is often set by the coach. My friend has coached every team his child has played on. Have you considered coaching?

Here is a link with sports programs in Smyrna:
SmyrnaBlog.com » Blog Archive » “Smyrna Youth Athletics”

I know families that have been happy with the various "Upward" sports programs offered for younger kids.

Here is a very closely related thread that was on here not too long ago...

Youth Football in the City

Definitely take a look. It should really help.

I would also private message the OP of the thread (plessthanpointohfive)...she should be a great resource and a lot of help. Good Luck!

Wow...I'm amazed there is no Pop Warner football in Georgia. My son played Pop Warner from the time he was 5 years old and it was a great experience. What a shame there is nothing like that here.

Most of the leagues, both flag and tackle have already had their signups. I don't think you'll be able to put him on a league for this fall. They don't have any in the winter, and the only one I know of that has a spring league is I-9, and that is flag football. We signed our boys up for Upward and the closing date for signups with the 18th. So you may just have to wait until next year, sorry.

Thanks for the advice, but at least two Upward flag leagues are still having signups well into August.
