Anywhere between Midtown and N.Springs areas should be fine.

The Downtown area has some nice apartment buildings along Peachtree Street and in the general vicinity, with very good access to MARTA.

stay away from downtown/midtown unless you want to be a crime victim.

Atlanta is usually #1, #2, or #3 for crime in the united states.

The 4 square mile Downtown district of Atlanta is very low in crime. It is perceived to be the opposite by people who don't know much about it, but it's not a dangerous area. There are other intown areas that have high crime rates, but Downtown is not one of them. I guess the tall buildings scare some people.

Midtown would be fine, especially if your wanting things like grocery stores within walking distance. It is safe and they even have midtown blue with off duty police officers you can call anytime.

Check craigslist. I think you'll find some in your price range.

I agree, the above poster is notorious for bashing anything intown. Check out his posts from last week. Its fine if suburban is more your thing but don't bash an area you don't live in.
