More mid rise apartment buildings are on the way.. The Canalside is only the beginning of new construction in close proximity of the CBD and Medical District.

The Canalside and the new GRU dorms equal 800 people in a 1 mile radius. This is the decade of rapid growth occurring in the urban core of Augusta.

Those dryer vents facing the street really set off the balconies....

''The management team, which held an open house for potential tenants Wednesday and will hold another today, said the apartment community is currently 20 percent leased. Medical residents, veterans and Savannah River Site employees are among the first signed leases, said Arieal Washington, the community manager at CanalSide. Ranging from 517 to 1,008 square feet in size, rent varies from $900 to more than $1,400, with extra costs for higher floor levels and better views.''

Is this a good area to live? I'll be working at GRU medical center. I put in an application for an apartment in the new building, and I'm excited due to the newness of it. The person I spoke with was really eager to get me in a unit.

Of course they were; they're salespeople! Nothing wrong with the location at all. You'll be close to work and close to downtown. You'll still need a car to get plenty of places, but you could walk to work (or catch a shuttle from the Annex parking lot a block or so away) if you wanted. Plenty of quick serve restaurants in the next few blocks up Walton Way. The apartments are on a busy intersection where many ambulances pass by (and a fire station is on the next block), so if you're a light sleeper you may want to plan accordingly. The definitely look nice from the renderings I've seen. Would love to see some real photos of interiors soon.

Those look nice, but I'm not so sure those aren't stock photos of one of their other developments. Comparing the photos to the floor plans posted on their website doesn't match up.
