Hello,

My wife and I are relocating to Fort Gordon (US Army) in March 2015 with the intent of buying a home in Evans. We need to find out how to enroll our two girls into Elementary school (in Greenbrier or Riverside Elementary) while we are still living in a hotel and house-hunting. This is especially challenging because my family and I are currently living in South Korea.

We will only have a hotel address when we arrive in Fort Gordon, and it seem all the schools want proof of residency to enroll. I only have a couple of weeks to get the kids into school before they have missed so much that they won't get credit for the current school year.

Any ideas or leads are greatly appreciated.

If the hotel is located in Columbia county you will only be allowed to enroll your children in the school zoned for the hotel. Unfortunate there aren't any located in the school zones you desire. You maybe able the register you children in Freedom Park elementary located on Ft. Gordon due to your military status but only if the hotel is located in Richmond county. You would only need to apply for an out of zone request with the RC board of education. Not really sure about Columbia county. If your on a timelimit enrolling your children into school first and then transferring them once you find a permanent residence maybe your only option. Either way I would contact the Columbia County schoolboard directly they may have other options available for relocating military families.
