Smart move on the city's part...

Quote:
Grovetown is extending its suspension of multi-family residential development until the city’s new wastewater plant is slated to open in April.

“We planned on having the multi-family development moratorium lifted, all of the zoning done by now, and we just haven’t been able to do it,” City Administrator John Waller said. “We want to make sure we do it right.”

The moratorium – the latest in a series – was spurred by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division’s order for Grovetown to build a new wastewater treatment plant to replace its inefficient plant built in 1986. The city’s wastewater now is sent to Columbia and Richmond counties.

Until the new $23 million plant is operational, the city’s wastewater management is unsuitable to accommodate new city construction south of Robinson Avenue. Anyone wanting to build effectively would have no place to send wastewater.
