To summarize, there will be a Forest Hill campus for athletics and dorms, Summerville for headquarters and main campus, Medical Campus, and the riverfront campus for performing arts. I actually like this set up. I think they should just move the entire arts department to the riverfront campus and use all that extra space on the summerville campus for more general classroom space.

It's called the 'West' campus since Forest Hills is actually a historic neighborhood..

The performing arts center is only one of several developments planned for the riverfront campus...

MCG, city officials put aside differences

“We’re looking at creating a gateway to this campus and some identity to this campus, which we don’t have now,” Osborne said. “These companies are contributing their expertise and time for the betterment of the university and the community with no direct personal gain.” Plans are for about 20 acres to be developed, including 15 acres owned by the foundation and the transit property. The medical campus and city will have a gateway, an identity and a brand that people will be proud to come into, Osborne said. “We hope to have bike trails, restaurants and amenities other medical campuses have,” he said.

Cool.. LOTS of momentum going on in the urban core of Augusta.. I'm glad to see the city, foundation, GHSU, local philanthropist, and developers all working together to make Augusta better... Hopefully some nice restaurants and other retailers will locate around the Walmart neighborhood market..

The $1 million pedestrian park on Laney Walker starts construction this year in the Medical District... The neighborhood market, transit property, kroger shopping center, etc should break ground and be redeveloped next year sometime...

The riverfront campus probably won't start to see major changes until 2013 and into 2014.

$8 million Woodruff gift allows simulation lab in new GHSU building | The Augusta Chronicle
An $8 million gift from the Robert W. Woodruff will allow foundation Georgia Health Sciences University to add to a new classroom building a feature it otherwise couldn’t – a state-of-the-art simulation center for interdisciplinary training.

It also brings the school closer to its goal for private fundraising to complete the new Education Commons building.

The five-story, 160,000-square-foot building is awaiting $35 million in bond funding from the state. The university has raised $23 million on its own, including the new grant, with a goal of raising $30 million of the $76.5 million total price.
