My neighborhood is full of mature pecan trees and there will be a stellar crop this year. When this happens, people drive in from other parts of town and walk the neighborhood to collect the pecans. Often, they venture far into the yards to collect. I have mixed feelings about this but wonder if there are laws about going into people's yards to collect them. I have waited seven years now for some of my trees to be mature enough to grow good pecans so having strangers help themselves kind of ticks me off. Seems like those in the street are fair game but otherwise?

Hmmmmm....I'd put up no tresspassing signs up around my yard. I can't believe people really have the "balls" to just walk up in folks yard's and help themselves.

Pick up a "No Tresspassing" sign at Home Depot and hang it by your backyard gate.
Use it seasonally when the pecans mature.

... or a sign that says: "Beware: Pesticide used on trees. Do not eat pecans."

Not as in your face as "No Trespassing" signs, but will probably make people move on to another yard. If you have a problem with the white lie, spritz some organic pesticide (soap based) in a tiny area.

I believe it's trespassing. I would assume that since the trees are your property the fruit of your trees are as well, which makes it theft. I can't believe the nerve of some people.

Whatever they can grab while standing on the sidewalk is fair game. Anything else is trespassing. You're right to be ticked off.

It would be funny if the pecan trees were like the apple trees in "Wizard of Oz", how they pelted Dorothy with apples when she tried to pick them. Only here the pecan trees would pelt your trespassers with nuts.
