My wife and I love this forum and have been using it primarily to get feedback on neighborhoods as we prepare for a move. My wife is well into the interview process for a great position in Austin and all indications are that this is 95% certain to happen. The 5% is actually on us -is this right move at right time? It's an awesome career move for her which I fully support and she has family in SAT. But I would be leaving my job for no job. I am confident that I will find another with time. I am currently general counsel for a small IT firm here and like the size of our business so would want something similar. I have looked at various job sites but I doubt that the vast number of IT/Software companies in Austin post on these sites. Other than the obvious choice of Dell, any recommendations on great small IT companies to work for? Would love to get an employee's point of view. Thanks!

I don't know that much about IT companies in the area but perhaps this chamber of commerce site can help. The technology companies that I know of are Advanced Micro Devices, Motorola, Texas Instrument, Dell, Samsung, Sematech,

There are many more "tech" companies in Austin than those big names. I think a key question is how many of them have or want in-house legal counsel. I don't know the answer to that question.

Software/IT companies that come to mind:

Pervasive
BMC Software
IBM
Solarwind
Tradewind
National Instruments
Convio
Vignette
Acorn Systems
HP (e.g. Tandem)
Motive
Surgient
Alterpoint

And many more.

I'm in the same situation OP. My husband will move with job but I will have to search for a new job again. I'm in finance and accounting and have always worked for IT companies (small and large). What sites would you recommend for the search? Are Monster and Craigslist the main over there?

thanks.

I would actually suggest speaking not only to the austin chamber but also the smaller chambers such as lake travis, four points etc as they may be able to point you in the right direction
