I remember when we lived in Dallas, it was a huge faux pas to be caught in white after the Labor Day holiday...what about Austin?? Is it more relaxed here, like in Florida?

No one cares. Not anyone worth knowing anyway.

Wait. When was that? I mean, I lived in Dallas back in the late 1960's/early 1970's, and I don't remember that still being a rule even then. And I lived in Highland Park for part of that time (where, if it had been a rule, that would have been the place).

As for Austin, no, we don't much care what color you wear when.

Labor Day is like Texas' version of Memorial Day. It's when the weather starts getting comfortable, not the other way around (like the rest of the country).

So I don't think people care. Maybe at formal dress parties (and that would be Dallas, not Austin), but other than that no.

We lived in North Dallas 15yrs ago...and maybe it was part of my Midwest upbringing (baggage) but it seems everyone just put away all the white shoes, pants, etc till the next Easter. I'm not ready to pack it all away, but just trying to understand the rules here.

I remember my mother's generation (I'm 60, and I was born when she was 36, so a LONG time ago) doing that, but by the time we lived in Dallas, not even they did it. How odd that it appears that it came around again in Dallas.

Well I'm happy that I can still wear my white shorts and linen tops for a while longer...not really ready for the jeans and sweaters yet! Although it feels a bit like fall today with the rain and overcast skies! Can you believe this rain??

You may need 'less' than a linen top come Thursday or so...steamy is the forecast! That summer gear will be good at least until Halloween, most likely.

Who wears white shoes anyway? After Labor Day or any season, they are a fashion faux pas!
