When I was a kid at summer camp, we would lie on our stomachs in bed and catch them in glass jars as they crawled along the floor. Life was so much more simple then, lol.

I'm pretty sure if this thread were a 'sticky' at the top of the Austin forum, it would substantially slow down growth in this city.

Burning the house down would not be an option, but I have to say that moving crossed my mind for a few seconds! I knew there would be critters out here when we moved, but knowing and seeing them by your door are two completely different things.

I had no scorpions the first 2 years here, but this year I have seen quite a few. The spider was free to go because he was huge and I have this fear of things jumping out at me. Besides it was about 20 feet high.

The scorpions are no longer with us. Nice to know that wasp spray works on them. I have said before that I live and let live, but I have this line (the rectangular area that would be my house), and when you cross that line, sorry, but you're dead.

Thanks for all the comments...made me start my day laughing.

I'll take those and trade you the 40+ inch copperhead we killed right off our patio under a bedroom window(we live on a greenbelt-dry creek bed). My daughter's neighbor in Buda found a big rattlesnake on their front porch. When you buy in a new development built in a former open field I guess you have to expect these things, but...Dang!!

You got that right, sister! Now I'm trying to talk DH into moving to a high rise condo downtown instead of a house. Presumably there are fewer "guests" there. Honestly, I've lived in both north and south Texas and never saw anything close to the likes of those things. Just had the huge roaches - and they were quite enough for me.
