I live in Round Rock so a South Austin dealer is out of the question. I don't need fancy tires, just good stock type tires with a decent warranty and rating.

Any suggestions for venders? Anybody recently replace their SUV or Truck tires and like to share the cost?

I have had good luck with Discount Tire. You can price tires at Tires.com.

Don't cheap out on tires. It is not worth it to save a couple hundred dollars but for the next 40k miles you are complaining about how they lose traction, are noisy on the highway, or ride hard.

I'm not sure if Michelin still makes the Cross Terrain but that was a good tire that I had on my Envoy.

I like Discount Tire. They will usually have an off-brand option in addition to Michelin for SUV tires. But it's usually only like 1 option.

It's been about 2 years, but I think I spent about $200 per tire. SUV tires are pricey, but they shouldn't wear as fast as the high-speed rated ones that sporty cars need... now THOSE get expensive.

Trick is to try to avoid the extra expenses they want to charge per wheel. Road hazard, extended warranty, etc.

It cost about $1,500 to tire up my Corvette with some Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's (amazing tire). I now have no sympathy for what anybody has to pay for tires.

It was also fun that my DD needed $600 worth of tires a month later.

Don't forget to check prices at Costco. You didn't give details about your Tahoe but it looks like they have Bridgestone for around $150 each and Michellin for $200. They have an online calculator to fill in your specifics.

I like to go to tirerack.com and find the prices and reviews for specific tires online. Then I go to NTB and with a little discussion have always matched the online price. Alternately you can buy the tires online and then have NTB or whoever install them.

I'd like to keep the price at around $250 per tire or less installed and balanced. I just don't like those "fancy" low profile 20's on an SUV. Thankfully since I moved to Texas, I don't see that "crime against humanity" as much as I saw it in California. I'm a truck chick and I like truck tires on my truck.

I used Discount Tires on my little Ranger back in California so I will give them a call. I will also do some research too on the suggested websites.

Oh, and I'm looking for 265/70R16's

Trust me, its here and absurd when every single truck and car has cheap and gaudy looking oversized chrome wheels. In certain areas it is much more rare than others. Central, NW, and SW I don't see it much. South, SE, NE, and North Central I see it alot.

i've never been treated poorly at Discount Tire no matter the city, location, or staff -- all are well trained, courteous, and work quickly -- they will let you buy what you want -- i've also felt the road damage warranty is worth the price everytime --

+1 for Discount Tire(although, they have one of the worst TV ads in history) and I've had good results from Lamb's(locally owned). I'll look at Costco as well, next time I need tires(you have to go with OEM sizes only at Costco).

Also, I'm all about a 'hazard warranty' since our XC60 has picked up three nails(two total punctures) and our C70 has picked up one($225 tire!). Lamb's took care of the last two incidents right zippy. Always look for a Michelin and/or Goodyear rebate program. Many others have them, as well.

BTW, we switched from a Pirelli Scorpion Zero to the more rugged All Terrain and they are MUCH noisier. I'll look for a 'compromise' tire next time...even though the tires are on an all-wheel-drive vehicle, they are on the road 98% of the time.
