Tanglewood Forest in South Austin has 2 areas, 1 North of Slaughter and 1 South. My realtor said that homes south of Slaughter have a higher resale value than those south.

I lived in 78748 from 1985 until 1997, ten and half of those years being in Shady Hollow. We really liked it for much of that time but the commute to work in Central Austin became increasingly wearisome, as did my consultations at hospitals and a residential treatment facility out in far North Austin/Williamson County. We subsequently lived in 78704, which I found so much easier, even for the commutes out to North Austin and Williamson County (we had good access to MoPac and 360 in Barton Hills -- it would be different if you were living in a part of '04 like Travis Heights). Equally or even more so, my partner and I disliked the journey into town to go out to dinner, bars, etc -- it inevitably caused us to leave the house as early as possible to try to avoid the rush hour traffic. That was feasible for us, but wouldn't be for a lot of people. Also 78748 is way too Republican for my tastes, although I realise that would be fine with many people.
