Lot's of suggestions for Chuy's, but Chuy's is a chain now (I remember eating at the one in Dallas in the late 90's) and not really one-of-a-kind anymore. Besides Austin, they now have locations in College Station, Houston, Dallas, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Waco, Denton, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennesse, and Indiana (just opened one in Clarksville). Better off going to something more unique like Guero's, Trudy's, Maudie's, or Maudite's Milagro off of Westlake/360.

I second the Hula Hut, it has dining on a covered dock out over the water and a very unique menu.

Is this the dock you're referring to?

YouTube - Hula hut fire

I hope they repaired it, though. My coworkers took me there for my birthday a couple of months before that happened. I still have the fishbowls that the margaritas were served in. Great place, great vibe inside and out.

Hula Hut and Chuy's are great choices.

Threadgill's downtown would be great, too.

Yes, they repaired it an reopened it again shortly after the fire. Note they did not reinstall the thatched roof. In the photo above it appears it has a metal roof. It was fireworks from a restaurant next door that caused the New Years fire. I bet they paid a pretty penny for that mistake.

Trainwreck mentioned Whole Foods...I think that could be interesting . Just as a reminder, the sun will be up until after 9PM and it 'could' be 95+ degrees at dinner time. Something to consider if dining outside . Have fun!

The whole incident just gives the Hula Hut more street cred. Anyplace that can catch on fire from a party like that obviously has got it goin' on.

Good point, Jobert...it might have been the 'hot bods' that set it on fire, 'cause it is the place to show em off. On the other hand, I guess that makes it a bit more like Hooters, so it can be family friendly too .

For that reason it may be nice to go to the Oasis, as they have misters and fans. The misters use evaporational cooling to keep the temps down about 20 degrees. Carlos N Charlies also uses swamp coolers, they are effective in the dry heat here. When you sit next to one you'll feel a cool moist breeze. Very nice.

Had lunch there yesterday. Very nice experience...maybe 30% of capacity(that place can hold 2200 people!!!) at a late lunch. WAY windy! Food was tasty. Looks like the other shops/restaurants are up and running, so there's a bit of variety in the food available. What a view! The cooler weather helped. Interesting drive and vistas if you wander a bit, also.

If the group wants to fight weekend crowds and drive a little, I think the Oasis would be great!
