I would suggest St. Theresa's then, Northwest Austin. It's a very active parish. St. Theresa Catholic Church - Austin, TX

Haha yes...I like the football analogy. Hope to see that stadium sometime..

Yeah, I have heard of companies that take a while to weed through resumes before hiring someone. That's why I hope via several staffing agencies and a combination of networking once on the ground, I could hopefully land a good position in town.

I guess my biggest concern is that things have changed from pre-2008 when I would not have thought twice about picking up and moving with no position and relying on savings for a few months. But, I think I'll need to take the plunge in order to make this geographic change happen. Thanks to you all for your advice.

Thanks also for the church recommendation.

If anyone thinks of any placement agencies they've used that have worked, please let me know.

I am retired but work PT for a branch of Spherion (national staffing agency) in another city. Austin does have Spherion branches and, for us anyway, the beginning process is all done online. (online application, online assessments, online eforms)

A couple of pieces of advice:
1) After completing your online application, be sure to CONTACT the office in Austin.
2) Our offices are busy and we don't get to contact the pending applicants as quickly as we would like. Phone numbers can be found online so please call the office. Also for our office, email is not the best way to communicate.

Good wishes for a successful job search!

I'm not Catholic, but my wife is. I'd also recommend taking a look at St Albert the Great. Father Isadore NzadingIdon'tknowhowtospellit is an caring priest, and is very involved with his parishoners.

He always greets me by name, even though I'm rarely there, and got away with calling me ugly at our wedding. ("Who brings this beautiful young lady to be married to this... ugly man?") We've moved a bit north, and a friend keeps wanting to take us to St Vincent de Paul, which also gets good reviews.
