The Austin Country Flea Market on east 290 has always been one of my favorite places to go in Austin. I can't exactly pinpoint why. My wife hates it.

Anyway, it's huge... it's got cheap food, lots of fresh Mexican produce/ingredients, live Tejano music, and a variety of other types of booths. Just be ready for an immersive cultural experience, and you may love it.

My family used to sell at Austin Country in the 80s. Was one of the best permanent flea markets around. I went there a couple summers ago and found it to be a complete dump and waste of time. Dirty and run-down; cheap imported crap, low-end garage sale stuff, several generations-old electronics priced as high as new, pre-viewed DVDs from Blockbuster priced higher than they sell them for and knock off merchandise everywhere.
Why doesnt north Austin/RR have a REAL flea market or swap meet? There are tons of people living in apartments here that can't have garage sales.

I think there's one out towards Jarrell. Or go all the way up to Salado and see what you can find.

Have you tried the Austin city wide garage sale? I'm not sure if its any good or not. It might be worth a look.

It's all expensive "antiquey" stuff - not lowe priced "flea market" stuff. You REALLY have to look around to find the "cheap" stuff.

I stopped going once the parking garage started charging again. I can't see spending almost $10 just get in (parking and admission).

"Flea market" has a different meaning here than in other parts of the country. Depends on what you're looking for.

If you're looking for decorative items, furniture, art, etc. some of the best places are the Round Rock Antique Mall, the Austin Antique Mall, and yes, City Wide Garage Sale & Wimberley Days.

And Canton, TX is supposed to be good, too.

The granddaddy around here is in Round Top, TX for 2 weekends a year. People come from all over the country:

Marburger Farm Antique Show :: Roundtop Texas :: National Antique Dealers
AntiqueWeekend.comâ„¢ - Texas Antique Weekend Shows & Events - Round Top - Warrenton - Fayette County, TX

Rachel Ashwell, the Shabby Chic queen has just opened a B & B in Round Top:

Oh, thanks so much for your post! I LOVE her stuff and I've always wanted to go to Round Top. That's definitely on my weekend trip list.
