What does everyone think about auto repair coming to you and repairs done on the spot. Have any of you ever worked with a mobile mechanic and how did it work out? Was the repair reasonably priced? Was your repair done correctly? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I am sure it is sometimes successful for really simple jobs, but from what I have seen it doesn't look too good overall. i own a repair shop and have to repair "repairs" done by mobile mechanics. One issue is lack of warranty. When the mobile repairs don't work out, rarely, if ever, is anything made right. Probably also no liability insurance.

It is extremely difficult to pack all the resources needed for many of today's repairs into a vehicle. If someone is skilled and proud of their tools and equipment, why would they work without a proper lift and subject to rain and cold? The parameters of working mobile rarely attract the best technicians, but there are exceptions.

One exception is auto glass and detail services. Auto glass is predominantly done mobile and generally quite professionally.

I've had great repairs and MUCH cheaper repairs than shops by mobile mechanics over the years. I wouldn't use anyone else. Most repair shops charge an arm and a leg and end up sabotaging a vehicle so it needs further costly repairs.

I have a friend who does work on my car, and charges me A LOT less than what Firestone and the other Pro's charge. So far, no complaints.

Not necessarily a repair service, but I've used a mobile oil change company (Direct Lube) for over a year now - absolutely love them. Just throwing it out there... cost is similar to a major place but no waiting, etc - they come wherever, knock it out, good to go.
