Also, Houston is less expensive and pays better - in my experience.

I dIon't know what you are insinuating about ghetto boys. Rap is not only a black medium. FYI I am a former mayor of one of the small cities in the greater Miami area. We live in an upscale gated community and he has never lived away from home much less in a new city. I will pass on to him about the rap scene in Houston. His rap is a combination or rap/melody. Don't know if you know but Pit Bull is Cuban and got his start in rap here in Miami. I think your remarks were kind of racist and although I shouldn't have to post, we are not black. He has a large personality, very outgoing, and is 6'5" so he will be noticed. I hope he does well with the networking with local artists. But if Austin is definitely a no go for Rap, I may be able to convince him to wait and consider Houston.

There is nothing insulting about that comment. Lol.

Geto Boys are an awesome rap group from the 90's from Houston, TX. Houston is an awesome city and has a huge rap/hip-hop scene. Just type in "houston rappers" in google and see for yourself.

I'd Definitely choose Houston over Austin. Its the Nation's 4th largest city and a huge music market.

Yeah there's no rap scene here and no place for up and coming rappers to perform. If he wants a musical career it's a hard slog wherever he goes but he can't even really gig here as a rapper. THe local venues fear non-big name rappers.

No, Geto Boys were a rap group from Houston...wasn't a racist comment.

EDIT: Oops, just realized someone else already pointed this out!

I agree, Houston is better than Austin, like others have said, there is NO rap/hip hop scene there; who would actually be "noticing" him? And actually, Atlanta is also a large rap/hip hop industry city, just like Nashville is the city for aspiring C/W musicians, and NYC is the place for aspiring rock bands. Did your son not do any internet research before deciding on going to Austin???
