I love the color of purple heart plant but I keep reading about how invasive it is. Anyone have experience with it and how hard is it to control?

For me, Bermuda is invasive and hard to control. I'm trying to decide whether to plant it under my live oak tree.

Thanks!

I have it under an oak and a couple other spots in flower beds. It's certainly hardy, but I've never thought it was invasive

We have several patches in our yard. One large patch in the back yard I put in where the grass would not grow in the shade. It has filled in with Purple Heart and looks very nice. It does well in sun or shade. There is no plant edging between it and the grass, but it is not hard to control with an occasional weed eater edging. It is very hardy, will die back in a freeze but readily comes back the next spring.

These were easily established by planting runners that I removed from the two patches in the front yard. If they are combined with other plants in the same planter they do tend to try and crowd the other plants out. I mixed them with tulips, lilies and other bulb plants that have tall enough foliage in summer they compete well with the Purple Heart.
