Who was complaining that churches around Austin don't have diversity?
Well shoreline has diversity! When I walked into the festive environment I saw several black people and hispanics too. And to my surprise and enjoyment I realized the lead pastor is a latina. That rocks. There was another latino pastor there too, now that is very cool.

It is great to go to church on a wednesday night. It boosts your spirits and reminds you about God and such, which is awesome because during the week I often forget all about God and Christ.

So, unfortunately they had a guest pastor from Florida who I think was a super cute latino man?? Not sure but he was hot! The main pastor didn't do her sermon and I really wanted to see what her style was like, she did come out for a little bit during a song and talked for a while then left the stage.
So the guest pastor's sermon was sort of tedius and overwhelming, and he really needed money for his church, that is why he was over here in Austin doing a sermon....so I really didn't feel too interested in him at all besides thinking that his hair was cute and that he had a hot look.

The band was awesome. The lead singer is a black lady who sings in the style of Yolanda Adams, and that is a very positive thing for me because I like that style. The stage was surprisingly colorful, with holograms, screen visuals, and a light show; and the audience was festive (hands in the air and lots of clapping) and they were also super friendly. That is what really impressed me was how friendly everybody was; people wanted to shake my hand and smile at me, it was wonderful Unlike at riverbend where people were pretty cold and stand-offish....not sure if they are always that way at riverbend or what? I sure hope not because I really wanted to like riverbend (I will post another review of riverbend when I return there)

But overall very good experience at Shorline and I hope to return and see what the lead pastor has to say for next time. I also suggest you give this place a try if you are looking for a diverse church.

p.s. shoreline is non-denominational

I just checked the shorline website and it turns out the latino people there were not the main pastors. Those were just people that work at the church LOL.

A lot of style and lacking in substance. If you want glitz and glam and a good contemporary concert in the morning. Hey, go for it. If you are a new "baby" Christian on a diet of milk, by all means attend. If you want deep water faith in the shallow end. Go for it. If you want REAL teachings that go beyond casual Christianity, move on. Pretty Shallow place. Attended for a couple years. The deeper I got involved, the larger the cracks began to appear. Just a lot of really shallow self righteous people who can talk the talk but when it gets down to it, really can't walk the walk. I know some in leadership mean well and are trying to change things. Praying for their success. No hard feelings here. I just knew it wasn't a place a mature Christian of 20+ years could grow.

It depends what your looking for. I agree if your a new Christian its good to get to know the basics. If your looking for any meatier teachings you can forget it, because there is nothing deep about this church. I went their three years and kept hoping it would change, but it never did. Keep looking if your a mature Christian, otherwise you will just become frustrated at this church......

While I think churches that are "seeker" churches and such, bringing in new believers are fabulous, when we move there we will be looking for a new church and will be looking for a bit deeper in a bible-based church.

Our pastor in Phoenix said to check out Gateway Church, Austin TX | McNeil Campus, so we'll definitely be checking that one out, but it does seem to be a bit farther from the area we're looking to live (northern suburbs). We also plan to check out Gateway Church, Austin TX | McNeil Campus as it appears to be more northern, and I'm intrigued by their offering of a "deepen" service on Sunday evenings.

Anyone have any thoughts on these two churches or any others that might fit the bill of a good bible-based church?

I'm not a Christian, but I think "contemporary" worship services (isn't that what they call it?) are the pinnacle of cheesiness. A light show, holograms, and a band? In church? Maybe I'm just too old school, but I don't think I could sit through 5 minutes of a service like that.

Well, I don't know about holograms and such, but our church here, as well as our church in Phoenix, just have live bands. Yes, they use colored lights (stationary, not flashing) and the video screens for the lyrics, but it's really like going to a concert more than anything else (but not really a high-budget concert with pyrotechnics or anything! ) with real music that you hear on the radio as opposed to something not as engaging, such as a choir.
