When we leave NM, considering TX. Some of our top questions:
Any excellent sushi restaurants?
Availabilty of good, fresh seafood in the grocery stores?
Quality of medical care?
Which lakes are best for swimming and kayaking?
Off leash parks for dogs?

I can only speak to dog parks. There are lots of them. My favorite is Turkey Creek, an off leash hiking trail, 3 miles of beautiful woods, even a waterfall (when we have rain) and a dog swimmin' hole.

uchi/uchiko - you can look them up, exec chef won james beard, former exec chef won top chef. Lots of traiditonal and good sushi too

fresh seafood - grocery store fish isnt really fresh, you need to live on the coast, but whole foods and central market are pretty good.

medical care - ok for a town our size. Not world class for cancer etc. Houston isnt too far though. Medical school is opening in a few years and that might help

lakes - depends on where you live - barton springs is good for swimming, lady bird lake is good for kayaking. Lake travis is good for swimming and kayaking. There is a canoe race that goes from austin to the gulf of mexico.

off leash park - there are a few. Just do a search. Walnut creek is good with 20 miles or so of trails, zilker park is popular - wide open space, auditorium shores is ok too
