Hello!

We're close to signing our life away on our new house and will be needing to put sod in our backyard. Does anyone know of a place where we can buy good, affordable sod? Thanks in advance.

Pretty much every place will cost the same within $5 a pallet. When I got some Raleigh St. Augustine for my front yard in March is was going for $125 a pallet. $75 delivery charge for entire order. I believe it's another $90 a pallet for them to install it. I got it from Turf Grass USA on 290 west of mopac and was very pleased with the quality.

Thanks for your response. There aren't a lot of choices, here in Austin, to buy sod from.

Digging up an old thread, what sod place did you go with?

But where to get sod that takes less water, e.g. Zoysia or Buffalo?

Turf Grass American on 290 has zoysia...it runs around $190/pallet.

I just redid my front lawn with sod from them...to replace the St A I did earlier in this thread (ha ha). It looked fantastic...looked like it may have been cut at the farm that morning and was completely weed free. It's worked out great with all the rain in the past two months.

Why did you decide to replace the St A and how did you replace it?

I'll second farmer's grass for local outlets.

The best grass for your situation depends greatly on your specific situation.

If your yard is mostly full sun, Bermuda or Zoysia would be a good choice.

If you have a fair amount of shade, St. Augustine will be your best bet.

There's quite a number of varieties of each, so it's worth your time to do some online research first. Most sod places also have demonstation plots too.

We went with El Toro Zoysia when we redid our yard a few years back. Apparently we have too much shade for it to thrive FWIW...
