This sounds stupid, but I have to ask: do any of the retirees that have moved to the area ever go to the bars on 6th St.?
Seems that I remember when I was there only seeing UT students, and nobody with gray hair and 60. This is a shame for me as I love live music, and 6th St. comes up with some people that actually become pretty famous as time goes on. But I would feel totally uncomfortable with it if I was one of the only old people there. Opinions?

In the early evening, there are more of the downtown worker crowd in a few of the places (or at least there used to be). Note that it is far from a crowd, though, and very little of the music is going on that early. The really young crowd generlaly comes out after 10 pm or so

All the bars I go to when I go to 6th are pretty well mixed up.
If you get drunk enough you won't care anymore.

The western portion of 6th(west of Lavaca) seems to be more diverse.

I'm 47 years old and I go down to 6th Street at least once a month to see shows at Antone's or La Zona Rosa. There is a population of older folks who regularly attend.

However, my two favorite clubs are still The Continental Club and Saxon's Pub.

You do feel like an a** when you are the ONLY one in a club at 60 and everyone else is in their 30's or college age, which is a pity because I loves me some good live music. Guess I will have to find a couple other old geezers and hit the street when I get to Austin now. It will be Wrinkle City Bopping!

True! I'm in my 30's and when I see people older than me out listening to some live music it gives me hope that in the future it is still alright for me too!

I'm 60 and like to go with same-age friends to Lucky Lounge next to Antone's when Ian McLaglen plays at Thursday's Happy Hour. Seeing his totally white head on stage rocking hard for two hours is great and his music is totally energizing. And there is a full range of ages from 21 to 60+, all having a great time.
