Yes, I think that's it. Any downsides to letting this pretty, low-maintenance, drought-tolerant stuff take over the yard? It seems like an ideal replacement for the various straggling bits of grass that never seem to grow very well here due to my lack of a sprinkler system.

The only drawback I read was it gets tall to the point you cannot see what you're stepping on: snakes, dog poo poo, rocks, fire ants.

Plus, if it is that invasive I'd have to keep in mind how the whole neighborhood would feel having this as their lawn.

I think we've got a winner. I don't mind mowing it from time to time (say once every couple of weeks at 3" or 4") just like any other lawn, and it's already taken over half the neighborhood. In fact that's how it spread into my yard.

Half my backyard was nothing but that - until I mowed it all down on Saturday!

I noticed my side yards are full of horse herb - even in direct sun, it looks green and lush. On Saturday, DH mowed it on high setting and it looks fine. I am going to let it be and hope it spreads.
