It is interesting to see on this map how the different parts of the City voted.

http://www.austintexas.gov/sites/def...rop_3_2012.pdf

Pretty much as predicted the outlying areas of the City voted for it while the lowest numbers of votes were in the central and West edges of the central city.

Well, interestingly enough, the vast majority of precincts voted for it, regardless of being downtown or not. And the 'negative' precincts were more west than downtown....

Michael Dell or someone at his 6D Ranch apparently voted against it (is there anyone else in precinct 318 in Austin?)

That is what I meant by Central and West Central, that is typically where most of the anti-single member district (SMD) voters have resided in the past. Those areas have always voted the highest percentages against SMD's and elected the most council members.

Have there been any preliminary districting maps drawn, either by independent groups or interested parties? I'd be curious to see how some people would envision the city divided up.

What will surprise Austin voters is that we can currently vote for all 6 council seats and the mayor. As 10-1 is currently written, Austin voters will now have
2 choices (area council member + mayor).

Austinites: please raise your hand if you knew that ?

Yeah, that was pretty much known, not really a surprise. The reason was that of the 7 'choices' that were available to vote on before, none had a platform that interested a large portion of the population. Now each district will be more specifically represented, for better or worse....

Not sure what you mean as 'currently written', I don't expect it to be re-written any time soon.

Raising my hand........think most people who voted for it are raising their hands! Maybe my area gets better representation of our area's interests.......hello?

As long as the council stays pro-core and pro-density I'm good.
