How many places in downtown Austin have on-street handicapped parking? I'm talking about something like this: Austin, TX - Google Maps

And do you have to pay for it or not? In this one, it looks like you do. On this one, it looks like you don't: Austin, TX - Google Maps

And that girl in the purple coming out of the building looks pretty cute.

Seriously, though, where is there on-street handicapped parking in downtown Austin? Or have I found the only 2 spots? On the same block? Really? Haha.

I don't know of any map of spaces, but there are certainly more than two. Keep looking I can think of one in front of the Driskill and two angled ones in the 500 block of San Jacinto.

You don't have to pay if you have handicapped plates or a hangtag, but that applies to any metered downtown space not just the designated handicapped spaces. It's a system very open to abuse... Chronicle had an interesting story about it years ago and the attempts to enforce it, one of our current tax assessor's crusades when he was a constable.

If you have a disabled hang tag or liscense plate you can park at any metered parking space for free in the City of Austin. However please note that many parking spaces around the state buildings are patrolled and ticketed by the State and I'm not sure what their rules are.

Can I use a disabled permit at meters or in timed parking zones?
Yes. If you have a disabled hang tag or license plate, you don’t have to pay the parking meters, and there is no time limit on the time zones.

This one surprised me...

Can motorcycles and scooters park for free at city parking meters?
The answer is yes, however there is a 12 hour time limit. Motorcycles and scooters do not have to pay for parking for the first 12 consecutive hours. After 12 hours, it is possible a driver could receive a citation.

Found this topic by searching Google for the same question.

It seems like the City of Austin would provide a map.

If I have to explain it, you probably would not understand it anyway.

Well, the original question was regarding where there were handicap parking, not just if it costs. If you are looking for parking that has open space to allow chair lifts, etc. that might be more important than the price and much harder to find than simply driving about.
