AUSTIN -- The Austin area continues to grow so quickly that its population will double in less than 30 years. That's the latest prediction from Angelou Economics, an Austin firm that revealed its annual forecast in downtown Austin on Thursday.
Yikes! Now is the time to work on improving transportation in the area. Just imagine the troublesome spots at rush hour now but with twice the number of cars.

Default Austin Population to Double by 2040

I'd like to see more details on this study. Thoughts?

"By 2040 experts expect an additional 95,000 cars will fill area streets and highways as Austin's population reaches a staggering four million people ... Austin may eventually have several different 'downtowns'."

Austin's population poised to double — and sooner than you think

Looks like EricNorthman just posted the same article. Can a moderator either merge or delete one of these?

did they drop a 0?

Should be 950,000 additional cars, right? 95k in 30 years doesn't seem right, if 115k _people_ are moving here in _two_ years.

Nope 95,000 cars.

The remainder will be pick-ups.

I think those numbers might be off. I, for one, will be gone by then.

30 years from now, we will all look back and realize what a huge ****up it was that we didn't swap I-35 and SH-130 when we had the chance.
