Hello! I moved here from Buffalo, NY three years ago and I can't find a good hairstylist, braider or barber. I have two sons who need a barber that's not scared to use a straight razor on them. Myself I got so fed up with the hairstylist here that I just started wearing wigs. Now I'm tired of wigs and I need braids.

Actually, I just had my hair braided Saturday , BIGGGGG MISTAKE, and now I am out of $150 with a very poor hairstyle. It was supossed to be a bob but it looks like a hairdo an 11 year old would give her little sister.

PLEASEEE help me Austin

I wish you were getting helpful responses and I'm afraid my response won't help at all, but here goes.

There are a lot of options here. I lived on the east side for about 10 years and passed many a salon that catered to Black hair styles. I have no clue which ones are better and which you should avoid. My best advice would be to watch for people whose hair you think looks great and ask them where they get their hair done. Seems there aren't many Black people on this Austin C-D forum. But every time I'm in Whole Foods I see well-coiffed Blacks, so maybe you could do some reconnaissance there and see what you find... Good luck!

Try Gabrielle's Salon and Spa on 183. I'm pretty sure they have someone that braids hair.

Boonie, I have 3 referrals that I can give you. I moved from Austin last year, after living there for over 15 years, so I've been to a few salons, mostly following the same stylists from one shop to another. There is a place in the HEB shopping center at 183 & Loyola. I can't remember the name, but they have a good barber and a couple of braiders. Also, I used to go to Black Hair Unlimited (Airport & MLK) when I was a student at UT.

Also, if you PM me, I can give you the names of my old stylists. One has her own shop near 183 & MLK, and the other is in San Marcos. I lived in Round Rock & NW Austin at the time, and believe me, they were worth the trip. Unfortunately, Austin just doesn't have as many specialists in Black hair like you find in NY.

Hi, Since you are from Buffalo, could you please recommend a good hairstylist in buffalo who can braid really curly hair well? Thanks for your time!

I think you are referring to Cal's. I would like to find a place to get my natural hair in twists that are not too expensive myself?
