We are moving to Austin in the very soon future, our son will be 4 in May and has a developmental delay from a stroke suffered in utero as well as a delay from chemotherapy. We are currently in an IEP inclusion school here in Maryland and it has done wonders for him in this past school year. My husbands job is in S. Austin so we would like to look in that area for housing but I'm having a bit of trouble locating and getting reviews on inclusion schools. I do see see that north I. Leander and round rock people rave about those schools but I was wondering what other schools some parents would recommend. Also children's hospital experiences? We are in and out quite a bit I plan on talking with his oncologist to see if she has any recommendations but like I said would like parent perspective on these types of things.

Thank you

Our daughter is in an IEP that is 'inclusion'; however, the speech therapy is a couple of times per week and not in the regular classroom. The school (Mills) generally groups the IEP kids together in a couple of classrooms at each grade level, so the SE teachers can work with several kids in one place, as opposed to running all over the place.

In any case, we have been very happy with the program. I can't compare it to other places, and I suspect that there is a strong link between the success of the program and the somewhat fortuitous relationship/connection between the student/teacher. Every child is so different that is hard to say that one teacher is the best for all kids, and sometimes you just get lucky and find one that is perfect for yours.

Our local children's hospital is Dell Children's Medical Center.
Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas

They are a newer children's hospital and have won awards for their design. I also love their pain protocol. Specially for Children is the pediatric specialty practice in Austin.

If you need other type of specialists, there is Texas Children's in Houston which is a top five Children's Hospital.

good luck!

The Houston one is top on our list. Our son is high risk for cancer. He has gotten it twice and he will in all honestly probably get it again, I saw that Houston for pediatric Oncology is ranked 6? That is amazing and comforting to know it's close by. I will check out Dell for something closer and that he can get his regular screenings and check ups. Thank you for recommending them.
