I am trying for find out a rough idea of how much my auto insurance will cost. Right now it's under my parents, and I know that younger people pay more, a lot more.

CAR: 2001 - Toyota 4Runner - Owned
AGE: 21
COVERAGE: Full (Tow, Labor, Rental, etc.)

That's everything relevant I could think of.

I'm not asking for anything overly specific, just a rough estimate that I can use when writing my budget.

Rough, based on 78749, clean record you'll land right around $150/mo

Depends on many factors. Do you have any speeding tickets (or other moving violations)? What's your credit score? What zip code is the car registered at? What coverage amounts are you insuring for? I would think $150/mth may be conservative (low), but really too many unknowns to determine.

Wow...that would cover both of our 2013 vehicles(worth $85K total) with full coverage and one accident. Guess there is an advantage to being old.

Consider dropping the collision since a wreck of any 'impact' would result in more repair costs than the vehicle is worth.

Is your tow, rental coverage for accidents only? Consider dropping that as well.

My zip code is 78745. I can't believe I forgot to add that to my OP.

I've never been in an accident or had a speeding ticket. I have no credit, though I'm working on fixing that as we speak. And I don't have answers to give for the rest.

Hopefully that will clear a few things up.

45 and 49 are fairly similar. The example I gave was based on average credit (or thin file), 30/60/25 limits and $500 deductibles.

The most expensive piece of the equation at 21 is liability and collision coverage (about 125 of the 150). You an usually save somewhere in the neighborhood of 10% if you pay 6 months in full.

Remember one lesson. Everything is worth what you pay for. Keep that in mind - make sure whomever it is you go with has an AM Best rating of "A" or better. At your age, shop it around or call an independent that works with 5+ carriers, since many carriers are very volatile with younger drivers.

You can get an exact quote on geico in like two minutes.

I have had them for 15 years and they have been great, had two claims and both went smoothly.

There is a reason why they are king for car insurance.

Car insurance rates need to be quoted, not just guessed on from folks on the internet.

I just got a quote from USAA (it's what my parents have) for $235.46/month... That's a little steep.

USAA said that I could get a policy for $150/month if I just get liability only.

USAA, Geico, Allstate, Farmers, etc. are all going to be very steep for you - you are not their target risk.

You're going to want to check Titan, Progressive, etc. they specialize in younger drivers and thin/no credit files.

Titan's liability only is $174.52/month, which is even more that USAA was.
