Going to be going to TX DPS in a few weeks. Will be moving with family and looking for commute of 45 minutes or less. What are the commuting options with family friendly communities/schools/4-5 bdr housing =< low $200s relative to this location?

So far looking at Hutto, Pflugerville, Cedar Park, Leander, Georgetown, Round Rock. Kyle seems a push for the commute. Coming to visit in a week and meeting with a realtor. Any places/neighborhoods we are missing? Any that I have wrong and the commute won't be less than 45 min?

That's a good commute location; you'll miss a lot of the worst traffic in and out and you have a ton of options to get there. My advice is to draw a line at 2222/290 and stay north of it. 45 minutes to there gives you a ton of options. One thing to be aware of is that the new toll road from Manor will really reduce travel time from the east (although the schools out there generally aren't considered as good).

Don't even think of Kyle/Buda.

Almost three hours and no one has pounced on the 45 minute commute idea?

OP clearly stated that 45 minutes was the acceptable range - seems that's becoming the norm now.

Price point is going to make it tougher - I'd take a good look at Pflugerville.

Well, I just drove from that exact location to my home in south central Austin, in the middle of the day, and it took a half hour. You wouldn't want to go much further south than Ben White to say within 45 minutes. But it completely depends on the time of day.

Pflugerville is probably the best bet and the commute will be longer than 45 minutes from almost anywhere at that price point.

How far of a walk is the train station on Lamar from the DPS building on Lamar?

45 min. on the choo choo could get him out to the Rouse HS track or the Vista Ridge HS track in Leander/north CP. Which would hit the want good schools & lots of house for the money bullet points.

If no train, might want to look at Anderson Mill neighborhood, or areas that feed into the McNeil HS track on Parmer. (would Milwood or Davis Springs be out of his price range....or exceed the 45 min.)?

Otherwise, sounds like East Round Rock or Pville (or Hutto?).

As long as he stays north I don't see the issue; 2222/Lamar isn't a horrible location for traffic coming from the north.

It's right around 3/4 of a mile from the Highland stop to the main DPS building. Depending on where on campus, the train is an option for sure.

Currently two listings in Milwood - looks like the word is out on that spot.

The Highland stop really is decent for the trip, isn't it?

Well, the issue is sitting in traffic for 45 minutes!...and adding to the already congested traffic from any direction. Not MY problem, as I don't commute nor do I need to get to that area during rush hour; but C-Ders have been quick to pounce on anyone who ASKS for a long commute. I guess we have just given up...with the lack of $200K homes anywhere near where anybody works!
