Well, I guess it depends on what you are looking for and how much of a demand it is in that market. I have been living here since April 2008 and have not been able to find a job yet, even though I look and/or apply for jobs almost everyday.

Good luck on your move and job search.

Have either of you ever considered being a 911 dispatcher, great benefits, nothing but job security, and agencies always have openings. Down side of course is that it is a 24/7 365 days a year job and newbies have to do their time on bad hours and weekends/holidays. Almost all will hire with no experience, but you must be able to type (no more than 40wpm usually), multitask (very important), and have a rather clean criminal history, not everything is a disqualifier but some things are.

Can you do 911 part time?

I've been looking for a part-time position for a while.

I do not think that Austin has ever been an "easy" place to find a job. (Maybe briefly in the boon 94-96 years). UT constantly churns out qualified people and a lot of them want to stay in Austin. Even 20 years ago, people were willing to work for low wages just to stay in town!

Typically you can not work 911 part time, there is too much training involved for it to be worthwhile for the agency, that being said, some of your smaller areas might, Lakeway, Westlake are a couple that come to mind.
