There are jobs for all kinds of people. Software companies need finance people. They need sales people. The state government hires all kinds of people. Austin is full of lawyers. Lots of waiters and retail people. Lots of teachers and professors. Lots of construction going on. Plenty of real estate people.

What do you want?????

There is many marketing/ Sales opportunities in Tech industry. They generally pay better (After incentives) than say retail sales.

I think a friend of mine did marketing for facebook in Austin. I could be mistaken but he majored in marketing at UT Austin. Do they teach tech skills in marketing cus I know a bunch of marketing grads at UT who started their own things and are very tech savvy?

Maybe it's the program there?

Marketing & Tech. Oh, and call centers. Otherwise, good luck! Expect to be paid bottom dollar. It is so hard to find a job here; I have been looking for two years. I'm intelligent, educated, experienced, and attractive. I also have common sense and a stellar work ethic. I used all the latest resume requirements & had several that I tailored. My previous employers gave outstanding references. I know many people who are underemployed and working two jobs just to get by. I can't wait to get the hell out of here. My doctor's husband is an engineer and he couldn't even find a job! We were just talking about how we did not understand all they hype about Austin having jobs when it is so hard to find a job here. Moreover, many of the Silicon Valley transplants, import their own people. I can't wait to get the hell out of here. Who cares about all the great stuff in Austin when you don't know if you are going to have shelter or not!!??

Are you really comparing career-type jobs to retail? Retail? Retail barely pays minimum wage!
