Im on a budget and am unable to afford the pass to go to the South By Southwest Festival. Im wondering if I can just go during that time and hang out? There's a few bands playing that I would not mind seeing. Can I just get in to see those few bands?

You'll pay the door price and if the band is decent, it can be pricey. But it's all good.

they will allow you to pay the door price BUT people that have SXSW wristbands get first priority so if they fill the place up you'll be left outside. Most people that are on a budget and don't want to or can't pay for a pass volunteer for a part of SXSW and that gets them a priority pass for the rest of the festival. I think sign up for volunteering was this week and they usuall fill all positions in a few hours because they get free passes.

Well, I may find another job. If Im unable to get off during that time I will simply quit. The job will have served it's purpose of getting me extra money. I can easily take off from my other work obligations.

Back when I used to go regularly, I never bought a wristband and as long as I was early, I got in 99% of the time. If the main act is on at 9pm, go at 7 when the early bands are on and it's not crowded. As a popular band's time slot gets closer the doorman start rejecting those without a wristband but if you're early they'll let you in.
