I'm new to Austin and I have been feverishly working on my new yard. I have a pile of dirt and rock to get rid of. It's about 15 - 20 wheelbarrows worth. Any idea what to do with this?

I have construction going on all around me with piles of dirt on their site but I know that's not legal. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Depending on how much dirt (vs rock) it is, it could be considered valuable...there just isn't much topsoil around here. You could probably put it on craigslist for free and someone would come get it......

Dump it on 11th Street across from where Congress Avenue dead-ends.

We found ourselves in a similar situation recently. I tried the Craigslist route first. I got a few calls, but only one person showed up to take some rocks.

I'm not sure what part of Austin you live in, but I would check with gravel pits or excavation contractors. Just east of Georgetown (where I live) I found such a place that charges $20 a pickup load, but it's cheaper than the dump. If you're lucky you may find someone that'll take it for free.

We just found a place today off of 183 near the airport. It's called Marcello's Sand and Loam. The number is (512) 385-5205. We paid $12 for a truck bed filled to the brim. I know, I know, this thread is ancient and my reply isn't going to help the OP, but I can almost guarantee you that someone, somewhere down the line will do a search for "where to dump dirt in Austin" like I did, and land on this site. So, if I can help a few people save time looking for a place to take their dirt, it's worth adding to the thread.
