I have heard news of some updates at the Slaughter intersection and possibly new roads down south? What about new shopping developments in Southwest Austin?

I have no idea as that is all far south to me but if you search around here, you should find what you are looking for.

There's a new In-N-Out burgers going in on South Lamar, North of Panther Lane.

Heard there's a gigantic gun range opening before summer on 35 between Wm Cannon and Slaughter. I think on southbound side.

For years I've been hearing of a new HEB near Slaughter and Congress, or Slaughter and 35. I never hear anything official, though. Just talk.

That SE area is one of the cheapest areas in Austin and it seems like one of the slowest growing areas of Austin but its seems like it's really beginning to grow and look prosperous.

I live down that way, some first hand observations:

- The gun range is going in on NB I-35, just north of the slaughter exit.
- There is a sign touting a new HEB coming at the vacant lot at SB I-35 slaughter exit, the sign has been there some time but I haven't seen any signs of site work
- Some soft barriers, yellow "sticks" were put up to prevent left turns in and out of the HEB at Slaughter / Manchaca to/from Manchaca rd. More improvements are coming to the intersection, dual turn lanes on all approaches and hard median extending 400 yards from the intersection.

Latest thing I have seen is site work for a food trailer court at south first and Slaughter. Overall I think it is a pretty exciting time for far south Austin.

Moontower Saloon has been a success, and the area along Manchaca Rd between Slaughter and 1626 is developing into an entertainment district with a rural/hill country vibe.

I just drove out past Dripping Springs on Saturday for the first time in a couple of years; what a bummer.

Concur - The lack of development was the main selling point of DS, now it's just a money grab by the existing property owners. Sure, the schools are good because of the demographic moving there, but the scenery is just not there. Relatively flat, and lack of tree canopy.

Perhaps they should just build a dam...

There is truth in every joke. DS is the beginning of Onion Creek. A dam would prevent flood damage to cities downstream and help prevent lawsuits.
