In addition to what meg said, plenty of arctic fronts that hit Dallas fizzle out before they hit the Austin area. Couple hundred miles can make a big difference

I've never been to Dallas to compare, but I know that Austin has mostly evergreen oaks and lots of cedar for year-round green. Maybe Dallas has a higher proportion of deciduous trees?

Dallas averages about 10 degrees colder in the winter than us. So everything there is delayed a few weeks.

There are days in the late fall and early spring when we are in the 80's and Dallas is still in the 50's. Makes a big difference.

I think you'll find some green. I didn't check to see where you're from but in my opinion there is no "spring smell". Opinions may vary but fresh-crisp-spring-when-the-last-snow-melts-and-first-growth appears smell? Haven't smelled it here. I've always thought there was kinda a funky, undefinable, moldy-like almost sweet in a weird way smell here. *sorry I haven't experienced the fill your lungs absolutely clean air smell.

Yep, it'll be green. I'll be a nice shade of red and won't be able to smell anything because of my horrible allergies Spring is beautiful, but my body hates it!

You mean the smell during "mud season" up north? That's just the smell of decaying matter that has been frozen all winter.

The smell of bluebonnets is very nice.
