Hey guys!

So I'm moving from Toronto to Texas, at the moment I'm currently interested in either Dallas or Austin.
I plan on checking out both places this summer coming up. I was hoping you guys could help me out beforehand, possibly suggest me on areas of either that would suite me. I did relocate for school to a town that was a 100,000 people. Coming from Toronto where there is 4.5 million people. I loved it as first but quickly became bored of it. I also felt like I stood out in that town. I am looking to settle down, any advice on the women in Austin compared to Dallas?

A little background about myself.

- 27 year old single male with entrepreneur mindset
- accustomed to sophisticated/luxury living
- love to keep fit
- I always like having something to do
- I work for my parents investment company, will be managing real estate income properties wherever I decide to relocate.
- I love cars - a strong car community is important to me
- I love the convenance a city has to offer but I also like my downtime a lot.
- im not into snobby people - but I like people who are ambitious and motivated and strive to be their best self.
- I love sports - soccer and formula 1 are my thing!

I appreciate any help I can get and I can't thank you enough!

Cheers

Live downtown or in west Austin. You'll be fine. You may melt but you'll be fine. Good luck.

In general, Austin is more laid back than Dallas, and so are the women. They don't dress up nearly as much as their Dallas counterparts. I'm not saying Austin women dress frumpy because they can dress with the best of them. just realize Dallas is a bigger city with more money and it's women reflect that.

Well currently the only F1 race in America is in Austin so.....

but Dallas has an MLS team so .....

If you like going to major league sporting events then Dallas is the area for you with MLS, NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA teams as well as NASCAR, Indy Car, and NHRA (drag racing) events.

I used to live in Plano and haven't lived in Austin for a full year yet so take this for what it is worth. Dallas has a much better public transit system out to the burbs (I could take the train from Plano to the airport) and the light rail train also interfaces with other regional trains to take you over to Ft. Worth or up to Denton. The DFW area does not seem to have the same adversity to building and expanding roads as Austin does. If you have allergies to airborne things you will have a difficult time in Austin. If you fly alot DFW is a much better airport than ABA (also have access to Love Field for Southwest).

Austin is indeed laid back but has more hipsters and panhandlers (not that they go hand and hand) than Dallas.

I guess this is sounding like a dump on Austin and I don't mean it to be. I do like it here but I feel that at times people get caught up in the hype of "Austin woohoo" when depending on your lifestyle and needs, it may not be a great fit.

The bigger city aspect also includes laid back areas - eastern & southwestern Dallas (Lower Greenville, Deep Ellum, Oak Cliff, the Cedars etc). They always seem to be overlooked. But yes, Uptown/Victory Park and Northern Dallas are a bit flashier.

You sound more Dallas than Austin. I mean you'd probably be fine here but Dallas seems more your vibe.

We came from Buffalo.
We still hate the heat and miss having seasons.
But Austin has been really great for my career.
Dallas sounds better for you because DFW is a bigger airport hub, which means it's easier to fly internationally to Canada or elsewhere.
I have two wrist tattoos and I thought it would be an issue affecting my employment, but it so hasn't. Austin is full of some seriously tatted people, especially women! I feel undertatted! :P

thanks everyone, I really appreciate at it.
After reading everything, it does seem like Dallas would be more my fit.
I just keep hearing so many great things about Austin.
I had to ask!

I guess the only thing to ask is..who has more attractive women? hahah
