I thought the construction on MoPac was complete? Wasn't there a big deal about it FINALLY being done and (deserved) criticism about how it took much longer than projected?

I was downtown for a concert last night and drove home at about 11:00. There were so many construction vehicles and police cars lining MoPac that I thought I accidentally went south and ended up on the Trail of Lights. Lanes and exits closed...it was a mess.

So how long is this "completed" project going to be under construction? Oh, and it was both north and southbound lanes.

Are they still working on repairing/replacing the sound walls?

I see nightly lane closures frequently. Who knows!
Road construction in Texas is always a never ending project. I35 between Dallas and Austin has been under construction for last 20 years that I have been driving on it, and it will probably be under construction for the rest of my life.

I35 was under construction the first time I rode on it, and it has been ever time I've driven on it since, which has been frequently. The first time I rode on it was when we were taking my sister from Northeast Texas to Georgetown to Southwestern for college. I was 5, and I35 was in the process of being built. So it has been under construction for well over half a century.

If you’re speaking of near Windsor road/38th ish I believe that’s sound wall stuff. It’s a mess. I go that way in the evenings when I work overnights and it’s painful. However, it’s not as bad as 35 south near William cannon at the same time.

Say, you are really a spring chick(en)!
I saw the same thing going on in ‘57 along the New I-35.

On the flip side, I'm amazed at the pace of construction on the new Slaughter interchange.

Tangent question for the old timers here: why does road construction take so darned long here? They dig it up, tamp it down with the rollers, tamp it down with that funky pegged roller, add more filler, tamp it down... and it takes months. Is it the soils on the "wrong" side of the escarpment? Some engineering unique to Texas? Do tell.

I read last week that the work on the 45/mopac interchange is also moving very quickly but they are waiting to wrap up until the Lacrosse intersection is complete.
