Default Not much luck with small dogs....

I have been searching for a small breed dog to add to my family for months. I have gone to many of the search/ rescue groups mentioned in this thread with no luck. All the available dogs are either large, or they have some kind of "special needs" that I am simply not prepared to cope with.

There is an organization in town called wee rescue, which seems to specialize in the types of breeds I am interested in, but they absolutely will not adopt a pet to any family with a child under the age of 10. (It says so in big, bold letters on their application form.) My son is 8.

So, every week I watch ads in the Statesman for available puppies from breeders...but I would much rather find an adult dog who, through circumstances out of his control, needs a new home.

Any options I may be missing?

Craigslist has small dogs being rehomed every day, and I know the main shelters get them as well - you just have to be diligent, I guess.

Please consider Animal Trustees of Austin. We got our dog from them, and he is wonderful. They rescue dogs, and keep them in their homes until they are adopted. They will also allow the dog to stay with you for a few nights to see if they are a good fit for your family before you permanently take the dog.
